How to attach files to your messages in Yahoo groups?
I am finding some members of the yahoo group are attaching the files to their messages. The attachments are not forwarded to the destination email particularly in the " Daily Digest " mode. For instance the file attached with a recent email  has the following default description is mentioned at the end of the email when it is opened by accessing the group Home page.
------------------
Attachment(not stored)
Myattachment.pdf
Type:
application/pdf
-----------------
If you wish to see that your file is accessed by Member, the best way is to not to attach, but to use the Files option [also called Files sharing ]on the left hand side index of Home page in Yahoo group [http://groups.yahoo.com/group/---------]

How to proceed:
1. Click on the Files option
2. Click Browse to select a file to upload. If you do not see the Browse button, your browser does not support file uploading.
3. Give description of your file
4. Enable [ Check mark ] to Send a message to the group announcing this file.
I have followed this method. I have first converted into pdf file My blog posted on http://suryanarayana.com/blog.html  Then  uploaded pdf copy of this blog on  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rotary3150    Please check Files option to open this file.
The Best Benefits:
(1) Some Internet Service Providers [ISP] prohibit to forward attachments to the emails. Though your text shows that you have attached a file it might not be received due to technical reasons. You may write in your email advising the recipient to access the file in FILES folder in the yahoo group (2) You can park your file in the group as long as you want or till the purpose is fulfilled.
(3) You can opt to send a notification to all the members about your file sharing instead of your sending a separate message.

Screenshot Capturing Free Utility
We all know Print screen (often abbreviated Prt Scr, Print Scrn, Prt Scn, Prt Sc or Prnt Scrn) is a key present on most keyboards, typically situated in the same section as the break key and scroll lock key. In Microsoft Windows, pressing print screen will capture the entire screen, while pressing the alt key in combination with print screen will capture the currently selected window. The captured image can then be pasted into an editing program such as a word processor, email, or graphics software.

Recently I started using Faststone Capture which is a screenshot capturing utility with advanced features that can capture the entire desktop, individual windows or objects as scrolling areas offscreen . I liked this utility as it is a powerful, lightweight, yet full-featured screen capture tool that allows to easily capture and annotate anything on the screen including windows, objects, menus, full screen, rectangular/freehand regions and even scrolling windows/web pages.
FaststoneCapture panel
We can choose to send captures to editor, file, clipboard, printer, email, Word/PowerPoint document or upload them to any website. Editing tools include annotating (texts, arrowed lines, highlights), resizing, cropping, sharpening, watermarking, applying edge effects and many more. It also allows you to record screen activities and sound into highly compressed video files. Other features include global hotkeys, automatic filename generation, support for external editors, a color picker, a screen magnifier and a screen ruler.

By using this utility, I have captured the adjoining "Capture Panel" image from http://www.faststone.org

This is by far my favorite screen capturing program (I compared no less than 6 others before writing in my blog). It is powerful, well designed, and uses a very small amount of memory. The latest version of this utility has become a shareware [available for $19.95 for lifetime license],   To download the last freeware version (5.3)  click or copy & paste the link http://www.divshare.com/download/1448754-6ce    You will be able to download a zip file 1.3MB size. If you have problem, you can ask info@suryanarayana.com to get a freeware from me.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam be conferred as Goodwill Ambassador of India

I am an ardent admirer of the former President of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam who celebrated his 77th Birthday today [15 October, 2008]. On this occassion I would like to recall my online experience with him. I have sent an eMail to invite him to be the Chief Guest of Rotary Club Career Event [21 September, 2008 ] intended for HR aspirants in Hyderabad in India. Though he could not attend this event, what surprised me and delighted was his quick acknowledgement and reply expressing his inability to attend due to his pre-occupations. Great and busy people must emulate this quality.
APJabdulKalam
I suggest you to view and listen  APJ Abdul Kalam's birthday message and interview on this occasion who spoke on "Challenges before India"

I have just read and signed the online petition "Dr.Kalam - Can be Goodwill Ambassador to Govt of India/United Nations" hosted on the web by PetitionOnline.com, which provides free online hosting of public petitions for responsible public advocacy.

I personally agree with what this petition says and this is the reason I have posted my view with Sl No:1739 at: http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?gwilla

I think you might agree, too.  If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider signing yourself at:

You will receive a confirmatory eMail upon posting your views.

I would appreciate if you could add your comments at the end of this blog as a token of your acknowledgement and recommend your contacts to browse and  bookmark "My Blog".

THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY [ 15 August -India]

GREETINGS on the occassion of 62nd India Inpendence Day.

I have read in one of the Magazines: "India as a Nation full of enormous potential but it needs to fix some crucial problems. India could do well without the slogans such as India shining or Incredible India since problems exists in health care, child malnutrition and poor infrastructure in many parts of the country. Our work for growth and youth extends from the doorsteps of the independence handed over to us.

So is the case with Rotary movement. Today I participated on behalf of Rotary Club of Secunderabad west [ http://www.rcsw.in ] in the Celebrations in a school in the outskirts of Hyderabad. The school is run for economically backward students. We have provided a water bore-well in the premises. Stationary with sweet packets were presented to the tiny-tots who were delighted with the gifts. The cultural programme after the flag hoisting was a real visual treat.

I have also participated in Pratidhawni programme recorded on 13th August and telecast at 8-20 pm today by ETV2 -the popular private tv channel in telugu. The subject was Bharat- Bhavita [Future of India ] The discussion programme was with powerful speakers in the lead followed by the views of persons like me. My daughter has also taken part in this programme. I consider this as a great opportunity to me to listen to enlightened speakers  and experience  participating in a tv programme

Beware of destructive Virus

I have received this info from a well-wisher:

TWO SUBJECT LINES IN YOUR EMAILS TO BEWARE OF:

Emails with pictures of Osama Bin-Laden hanged are being sent. If you get an email along the lines of 'Osama Bin Laden Captured' or 'Osama Hanged', don't open the attachment. This virus may also be received from a friend or someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list.
Do not open any message with an attached file called 'Invitation' regardless of who sent it.
The moment that you open these emails your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it!
It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

Do not open it. Delete it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by  Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee recently, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING TO YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY,CONTACTS AND EVERYONE YOU CARE FOR.
